MAYLANDS
Open for Breakfast and Lunch - Tuesday through Sunday.
I ordered Granny June's Cornbread with Poached Eggs, Crispy Bacon and Maple Syrup. I have ordered this before and it is one of those menu items where you come back for it but each time you eat it you're not quite sure why you ordered it again. Eggs were perfectly poached, the bacon was slightly over crispy for my liking but thats OK, the maple syrup was yum but here is my complaint; the cornbread just falls apart - it is so hard to eat! Plus it's cut quite thick and therefore there is a lot of it to get through. All in all, not bad, very sweet but I have had such good brunches lately it doesn't quite compare.
Moving onto Gemma's dish - the Bircher Muesli with Peach, Mango, Strawberries, Apple, Hazelnuts, Seeds, Mint and then and then and then - it had it all, it looked gorgeous, it tasted gorgeous and I nearly went back this morning to get it for myself! Massive case of food envy on this one... Granny June can stick her Cornbread next time!
An assortment of cupcakes, cookies, muffins, slices, tarts on the front counter taunted me all throughout breakfast. They looked delicious!
There is a lot of hype surrounding Mrs. S and it certainly has an enjoyable, welcoming atmosphere. Service wasn't bad, they didn't rush us out even though they were busy which is admirable, our glasses were constantly filled up with water. Maylands is a great place to venture to (it really isn't far)! Lots of interesting little shops to poke around in and earning a good reputation for food. Worth a weekend wander!
